Environmental issues in the post-communist Ukraine

Article Abstract:

An analysis is presented on environmental degradation in the Ukraine and its implications for health, economic development and policy-making. The article focuses on the regions most severely impacted, which include the Dnipro river basin, the Polissya region and metropolitan areas near the Azov and Black Seas.

Land-use intensification and environmental degradation: Empirical evidence from irrigated and rain-fed farms in south eastern Nigeria

Article Abstract:

A framework for assessing the sustainability of an irrigational scheme and applying it in the context of one such scheme in south eastern Nigeria is developed. It is found that about 9% of the soils of the irrigated land was degraded to the extent that they are no longer suitable for arable agriculture.
