Fate and transport of metam spill in Sacramento River

Article Abstract:

A model made by P.F. Wang et al. and designed to simulate the transport of metam sodium in the Upper Sacramento River in California is discussed. The model was created by using the toxic module of EPA model WASP4. It is used to compute for changes in the mass of constituents due to advective and dispersive transport in aquatic systems. Upper Sacramento River is characterized by a nonuniform and steep gradient with a highly irregular cross-section. The water quality in the river was modeled using river flows estimated from a water balance on the system.

Washing of bentonite in laboratory hydraulic-conductivity tests

Article Abstract:

A research effort proposed a design method for soil-bentonite liners and a method for considering the risk of instability of bentonite at low concentrations. Focus was on the mineral's instability at low concentrations, the applicability of the design method, the filtering layer's role and a couple of errors made. The first error detected was the incompatibility of the two gradations of the illustration called Figure 1 with the text, and the second error was in the case history's interpretation.

ANSWERS-2000: runoff and sediment transport model

Article Abstract:

A new approach was proposed for the management of non-point source pollution. The ANSWERS mode-based approach, however, focused on sediment yield and failed to model pollution transport in soils. It also failed to consider exchanges between the soil and surface streams. Although applicable to sediment and surface water, the proposed method cannot be used full best management purposes.
