Feeding and survival in parasitic wasps: sugar concentration and timing matter

Article Abstract:

Research on the parasitic wasp Cotesia rubecula highlights the role of sugar in species lifetime fecundity and longevity. Late-life sugar feeding and concentration significantly increased longevity. Fitness was decreased among wasps who did not feed on sugar at any time during foraging.

Body size and the timing of egg production in parasitoid wasps

Article Abstract:

The dependence of the timing of egg production on the body size and host availability is examined. The general occurrence of size-related deferment of reproductive investment in parasitoid wasps is easily understood with the help of the ovigeny concept.

Host selection in phytophagous insects: a new explanation for learning in adults

Article Abstract:

Research on insect-plant relationships indicates that learning in egg laying females is an advantageous strategy when larval development is dependent on multiple host plants. A formal mathematical model is included.
