Fire increases invasive spread of Molinia caerulea mainly through changes in demographic parameters

Article Abstract:

The effects of fire on population growth rate and invasive spread of the perennial tussock grass Molinia caerulea is discussed. Results show increased invasive spread of M. caerulea after fire, and call for active management guidelines to prevent further encroachment of the species and to reduce the probability of large accidental fires in the future.

Expansion of geographic range in the pine processionary moth caused by increased winter temperatures

Article Abstract:

A latitudinal and altitudinal expansion of the pine processionary moth, Thaumetopoea pityocampa whose larvae build silk nests and feed on pine foliage in the winter is described. The need to develop temperature-based predictive models for future range shifts of winter-limited species with potential applications in management is highlighted.
