Fluxes of methane and carbon dioxide on peat-mining areas in Sweden

Article Abstract:

Research indicates that peatland mining is a significant contributor to atmospheric methane and carbon dioxide. Methane fluxes were highest in mining ditches, while carbon dioxide releases were present in both ditches and mining strips; strips yielded the highest levels of total emissions.

Conflict resolution by participatory management: remote sensing and GIS as tools for communicating land-use needs for reindeer herding in northern Sweden

Article Abstract:

It is illustrated how remote sensing and GIS can be used to compile information regarding land-use activities and patterns among reindeer herders and other land users in northern Sweden. The project can serve as a model.
