Gap percolation in rainforest

Article Abstract:

A new description of potential understory habitats that give rise to a well-defined characteristic vertical scale of forest organization is presented. The possible implications for plant dispersal and animal colonization strategies living at the understory or close-to-floor are discussed in relation to rainforest gap-dynamics, habitat loss and habitat fragmentation processes.

Sex ratio of 'Parus major' and 'P. caeruleus' broods depends on parental condition and habitat quality

Article Abstract:

Brood sex ratio was studied in 88 'Parus caeruleus' (blue tit) families and 95 'Parus major' (great tit) families in deciduous and mixed forest habitats differing in food availability. The blue tit is expected to be more sensitive to the nutritional differences between the habitats than a food generalist such as great tit.
