Geography of fluctuating asymmetry in the greenfinch, Carduelis chloris

Article Abstract:

The levels of fluctuating asymmetry (FA) in 12 bilateral skeletal traits from 12 populations of greenfinches (Carduelis chloris) collected along a north-south gradient across Europe are estimated. The break down of developmental stability in the recently established and genetically impoverished populations is indicated by the latitudinal cline of increasing FA towards north coincide with the decreasing levels of genetic variability across the cline.

Optimal offspring size in a small mammal: An exception to the tradeoff invariant life-history rule

Article Abstract:

Offspring size and number were examined in a captive population of the wild guinea pigs and findings were compared with models of optimal offspring size for small litters. Median and modal litter size was two, regardless of maternal size or parity.
