Heavy metals from the River Adayar, India: infiltration into the adjacent groundwater aquifer

Article Abstract:

Heavy metals found in undisturbed sediments of India's Adayar riverbed indicate that the river acts as a drainage sink for runoff from the region's industrial and residential zones. Monsoon floods and saltwater intrusion may mobilize metal ions, exacerbating the contamination problem.
