Indigenous methods for storage and use of bioresources: case study, Indian central Himalaya

Article Abstract:

An overview is presented on the methods used by indigenous Himalayan peoples in harvesting and storing natural resources, specifically food grains, fruits, vegetables, fuel wood and fodder. Advantages of these methods include pest control measures that are not harmful to the environment, and storage techniques which do not require non-natural or invasive infrastructure.

Government-industry-civil society: partnerships in integrated gene management

An argument is presented supporting conservation programs that combine the efforts of government agencies, business enterprises and public organizations to achieve environmental goals. These include species protection, sustainable use and egalitarian distribution of benefits.

Forests in the economy of the rural poor: an estimatin of the dependency level

Article Abstract:

A study of the forests in India, and their influence on that country's rural population, is presented. The dependency on the forests varies by region, but averages about 50%.
