Indigenous practice of tree management for multiple-products in Nepal

Article Abstract:

Proposals for managing Nepalese forests fail to address several issues. Although they include villagers' needs as well as national economic demands, the proposals do not incorporate indigenous management processes that are linked to Nepalese culture. They also overlook two emerging forest stand types, overemphasize the importance of broadleaf forests and offer a faulty time structure for harvest calculation.

Reducing the nitrogen load: whole tree harvesting: a literature review

Article Abstract:

By harvesting the entire tree, loggers can actually help the forest environment by reducing the amount of nitrogen in the soil. While some nitrogen is good for plant growth, excessive amounts can cause problems. Trees that die naturally, and scrap left from logging can create excessive nitrogen.

Assessing natural forest management as a tool for tropical forest conservation

Article Abstract:

Natural forest management has limited usefulness as a way of conserving tropical forests. Natural forest management promotes careful selection of trees to be harvested and replanting. However, this method of logging is costly and it is questionable if it helps preserve rain forests.
