Integrating methods that investigate how complementarity influences ecosystem functioning

Article Abstract:

The methods for detection and measurement of the effects of complementarity on the ecosystem functioning (EF) of an individual polyculture in a biodiversity-ecosystem functioning (BD-EF) experiment are discussed. The relationships between different experimental designs and analytical methods, the relative advantages of different methods and the diagnostic statistics with different ecological interpretations in different methods are described.

Spatio-temporal developments of forests-current trends in field methods and models

Article Abstract:

The study of spatio-temporal process provides a link between pattern and process in plant communities, and plays a crucial role in understanding ecosystems dynamics. The new models are presented which describe the dynamics of individuals and pairs of individuals in terms of their densities.

Stochastic relations between species richness and the variability of species composition

Article Abstract:

The pattern of expected stochastic relationships between species richness and compositional variability is described. A correlation between species richness and the important measures of community variability is essential even in the absence of systematic processes.
