Is the composition of phytophagous insects and parasitic fungi among trees predictable?

Article Abstract:

The relationship between pairwise similarity of assemblages of exploiters (phytophagous insects and parasitic fungi) and pairwise genetic distance, range overlap, niche overlap and habitat overall of host trees is investigated. It was observed that the host switches of exploiters between related hosts are more significant than host switches between host co-occurring in the same habitat and a strong connection was found between pairwise similarity of assemblages of insects and the pairwise similarity of assemblages of fungi.

Shoot herbivory on the invasive plant, Centaurea maculosa, does not reduce its competitive effects on conspecifics and natives

Article Abstract:

The effect of shoot herbivory on the invasive plant Centaurea maculosa is studied. Results indicate that shoot herbivory on the invasive plant, Centaurea maculosa, does not reduce its competitive effects on conspecifics and natives, suggesting that exceptionally high intensities of herbivory are required to suppress its growth and reproduction.

Palatability, decomposition and insect herbivory: patterns in a successional old-field plant community

Article Abstract:

The relationships between plant palatability, litter decomposition rates and functional leaf traits across common species in an old-field plant community are investigated. The predictable effects of plant palatability on insect herbivore-induced changes in the cover abundance of plant species are examined.
