Landfill siting using geographic information systems: a demonstration

Article Abstract:

An analysis of a literature on landfill siting through the use of geographic information systems was conducted to study the method used in the analysis of the study area. Muhammad Z. Siddiqui, Jess. W. Everett and Baxter E. Vieux proposed the method which used area attributes and selection criteria in identifying and calculating the suitability of the landfill sites. However, some drawbacks have been established and it is suggested that the potential landfill sites be tested further for suitability ranking.

Flow investigation for landfill leachate (FILL)

Article Abstract:

The low values for surface runoff from the Hydrological Evaluation of Landfill Performance model could be attributed to the use of the Soil Conservation Service curve-number method in estimating runoff. The curve-number method is not applicable to computations involving hourly input. The data to be used should be divided into storm events with a minimal rainfall volume and separated by a minimum dry interval.
