Linking aboveground and belowground communities: the indirect influence of aphid species identity and diversity on a three trophic level soil food web

Article Abstract:

Results of an experiment are presented that was performed by utilizing model grassland communities containing three plant species, in which treatment consisted of addition of each of eight aphid species in single and two-four- and eight-species combinations, and an aphid-free treatment. Results show that while aphid species treatments did not affect total plant biomass or productivity, aphid species identity had important effects on the relative abundance of three plant species.

Experimental evidence that aboveground predators are sustained by underground detritivores

Article Abstract:

A study is conducted to find that generalist predators aboveground are sustained by the belowground detritivores. The decrease in the abundance and species richness of web spiders due to the reduction in input of detrital arthropods is examined.

Antipredator defence of the hermit crab Pagurus filholi induced by predatory crabs

Article Abstract:

The change in preference for shells and the refuge duration of hermit crabs are investigated. The defense mechanisms of changing shell and timing of fleeing are induced by the stimulus of a predator.
