Making eggs from nectar: the role of life history and dietary carbon turnover in butterfly reproductive resource allocation

Article Abstract:

The use of dietary resources in egg manufacture by four butterfly species with different pattern of oviposition and lifespan is examined. The role of factors such as development, behavior and nutritional physiology in determining the importance of dietary resources in the manufacturing of eggs in butterflies is discussed.

The significance of predation in nest site selection of turtles: an experimental consideration of macro- and microhabitat preferences

Article Abstract:

The existence of the nest site selection in an Australian Turtle (Emydura macquarii) with genetically determined sex determination (GSD) at two spatial scales is described. The repeatability of nesting and microhabitat preferences in turtle without temperature dependent sex determination (TSD) is discussed.

Significance of butterfly eyespots as an anti-predator device in ground-based and aerial attacks

Article Abstract:

Many butterfly genera have large, conspicuous eyespots on their wings. It is examined whether the presence of eyespots influences the position of initial strike, or, more importantly, the potential of the butterfly to escape predation.
