Modelling of geochemical reactions and experimental cation exchange in MX80 bentonite

Article Abstract:

A study aims to predict the newly formed products of bentonite-fluid reactions under repository conditions by applying a thermokinetic hydrochemical code and estimates the influence of interlayer cations, Ca and Na on the swelling behavior of the MX80 bentonite. The results confirmed that the Na/Ca-montmorillonite-to-Ca-montmorillonite conversion is the main chemical transformation in the bentonite barrier under repository conditions.

Removal of Fe(II) from the wastewater of a galvanized pipe manufacturing industry by adsorption onto bentonite clay

The efficiency of iron (II) removal was tested using wastewater from a galvanized pipe manufacturing industry in Islamabad, Pakistan. Bentonite clay was used as an adsorbent in this removal as it is cheap and readily available.
