Neutral theory in macroecology and population genetics

Article Abstract:

The similarities and differences between neutral theory in macroecology and neutral theory in population genetics are highlighted from the aspects of the operational units, definitions of neutrality, basic parameters, driving forces and spatial structures. A species in neutral macroecology is equivalent to an allele in population genetics and while neutral macroecology focuses on the community level, population genetics focuses on the population level.

Sex determination in Bonellia virdis (Echiura: Bonelliidae): Population dynamics and evolution

Article Abstract:

The specific form of environmental sex determination (ESD) affects dynamics of Bonellia populations and investigates the selective advantage of ESD over the more widespread genotypic sex determination (GSD) is explained. The original hypothesis of Charnov and Bull thus needs to be refined in the sense that along with females forming an unpredictable resource for males, empty burrows are an unpredictable resource for females.

Implications of mate search, mate choice and divorce rate for population dynamics of sexually reproducing species

Article Abstract:

The implications of mate search, degree of mate choice and degree of mate fidelity on the population dynamics of sexually reproducing species are investigated. Ecological constraints exist for possible coevolution of mate choice and pair maintenance behavior.
