Outcome of insecticide control of cockroaches (dictyoptera: blattellidae) in public housing in France

Article Abstract:

An insecticide treatment campaign against cockroaches in the low-income flats of Rennes, France showed that the number of flats actually infested by cockroaches were lower than what was reported during an enquiry. It was also revealed that the success of the campaign depends on the amount of access pest control agents have in inspecting private flats as this is critical for the kind of pest control that will applied. Furthermore, the residents' knowledge of the cockroach situation contributes to the effective treatment of infested flats and the lessening of unnecessarily treated flats.

Clarifying the public/private distinction

Article Abstract:

Arguments on theoretical issues regarding environmentalism should not be published in journals that are meant for the general public or for environmental practitioners. These articles tend to have a negative impact on environmental programs. Their publication should instead be limited to philosophically-oriented journals. As such, the morality or lack of morality of these abstract concepts would not be taken as position statements for or against environmental protection.

Northeastern harbor porpoises: do scientists' preferences and values reflect those of the public?

Article Abstract:

Members and the general population and scientists were polled as to whether they would be willing to pay a tax to help protect porpoises from fishing accidents. The survey showed that both scientists and the public agree that they'd be willing to pay to protect porpoises.
