The UN climate conference, held in Buenos Aires, Argentina from Nov 2-13, 1998. aimed to develop ways to achieve the goals of climate pact signed in Kyoto, Japan in 1998. The international agreement, which is labeled as the Kyoto Protocol, mandates that top industrialized countries including the US, Canada and Japan reduce their greenhouse gas emissions. Climate

Article Abstract:

The environmental organization Greenpeace campaigns for a 30% reduction in CO2 emmissions by the year 2000. CO2 and other gases threaten the climate with the greenhouse effect. The Rio Climate Convention only calls for stabilization of the emmissions. In addition, US bears the major responsibility of implementing energy strategies that would address the global warming threat since it produces 25% of the earth's CO2 emmissions, the largest by a single nation.
