Predictability of plant species composition from environmental conditions is constrained by dispersal limitation

Article Abstract:

A large database with co-occurrence data, using ordination techniques, DCA and CCA to identify the major environmental determinants of species composition is analyzed. The results indicate that the predictability of species composition from environmental conditions is reduced by a few orders of magnitude by dispersal limitation and that poor dispersers are underrepresented.

Regional and local patterns in plant species richness with respect to resource availability

Article Abstract:

The patterns in regional species richness with respect to productivity variables are examined with the help of Ellenberg's indicator values for 1802 plant species in central Europe. The gradients in plant productivity controlled by different variables such as water, nutrients and disturbance have dissimilar effects on plant species richness.
