Public preferences and efficient allocation of a possum-control budget

Article Abstract:

A postal survey of residents of Nelson City, New Zealand, on possum control at Paparoa National Park indicates that public opinion for funding possum control correlates more with their appraisals of intricate site details and less with their socio-economic backgrounds or scientific criteria. This is an indication of the need to revamp the present mode of budget allocations for possum regulation by incorporating public preferences on forest protection.

Prospects for sustainable management of indigenous forests on private land in New Zealand

Article Abstract:

New Zealand furnishes an especially interesting locale for investigating conservation policy issues related to private land. It is argued that the nation's indigenous forest policy is practically an enforced compromise which aims to balance the property rights of indigenous-forest owners and the public desire to protect these forests. The New Zealand government's indigenous forest policy is analyzed and discussed.
