Quantifying the impact of arbuscular mycorrhiza on plant competition

Article Abstract:

An analysis of plant competitive reactions focuses on the arbuscular mycorrhiza (AM) fungi and its effect on plant community structure. Several experimental studies have been conducted to determine how the presence of the AM fungi influences the outcome of plant competition. These studies reveal that such influence is clearly visible when other species manifest varied responses to mycorrhizal fungi. Mycorrhizal fungi can also alter the degree of aggressivity of competing plant species.

Waterbird impact on widgeongrass Ruppia maritima in a Mediterranean wetland: Comparing bird groups and seasonal effects

Article Abstract:

The effect of waterbirds on the submerged macrophyte Ruppia maritima in eleven fishponds within Donna Natural Park is studied. The findings refute previous suggestion that major effects of waterbirds are limited to temperate regions and to periods of early growth or when major concentrations of migratory wildfowl are formed in autumn.

Impact of a bycatch reduction device on diamondback terrapin and blue crab capture in crab pots

Article Abstract:

Test results are presented on wire bycatch reduction devices aimed at preventing the deaths of diamondback terrapins drowned in crab pots. The 4.5 x 12 cm device was found to lower terrapin mortality, and are recommended along with habitat protection as conservation program components.
