Recreational benefits from the Dartmoor National Park

Article Abstract:

Many attempts have ben made to quantify the benefits for visitors to National parks and other recreational sites. Most methods are based on travel costs. Annual recreational benefits of the Dartmoor National Park in the south-west of England have been evaluated using the individual travel cost method (ITCM). The two main benefits from the operation of a National Park are conservation and used by visitors. The estimates of the consumer surplus generated by access to the park are much higher than from existing studies of other sites.

The potential, development and ecological impact of ecotourism in Kibale National Park, Uganda

Article Abstract:

The effects of campsite development and recreation on woody species diversity and composition were studied. It was found that the development of campsites removes large amounts of vegetation, leading to the loss of woody species and the reduction of species composition in protected areas. An early evaluation of natural areas potential, ecological preservation of protected areas and monitoring of woody species composition in the recreation area were recommended for ecological management of natural areas.

Economic and ecological consequences of the disappearance of traditional practices related to chestnut groves

Article Abstract:

The economic and local factors involved in the disappearance of chestnut groves was investigated in nine localities of Southern Cevennes, France, to provide a basis for their potential evolution in the future. A study of the flora and evaluation of the robustness of planting revealed that the chestnut grove will exist for a long time, but abandonment and inability to make the trees valuable will degrade their future.
