Sexual size dimorphism in seabirds: Sexual selection, fecundity selection and differential niche-utilization

Article Abstract:

Phylogenetic comparative methods are used to test the selective processes that may influence seabird's sexual size dimorphism (SSD). It is concluded that sexual selection influences SSD in seabirds, however, results do not support the fecundity selection and the differential niche-utilization hypotheses.

Why are American mink sexually dimorphic? A role for niche separation

Article Abstract:

Carcasses from three feral island populations of American mink were used to assess the degree of sexual dimorphism. It was argued that niche separation as a result of dimorphism in trophic features, though not the driving force behind sexual size dimorphism, might play a role in its maintenance.

Sexual differences in response to larval food stress in two nuptial feeding orthopterans-implications for sexual selection

Article Abstract:

Food limitation is a naturally-occurring stress in the katydid Kawanaphila nartee (Orthoptera: Tettigoniidae) where hunger drives females to compete for copulations and thus acquire spermatophore meals. This increases sexual selection on females relative to males for increased body mass.
