The economic importance of products extracted from Amazonian flood plain forests

Article Abstract:

An overview is presented on timber and nontimber extraction levels in the production of forest products by rural people in the Peruvian Amazon region, along with the resulting environmental impact. The article also examines the need for socioeconomic research, balancing rural livelihood requisites and ecological mitigation, before land-use policy changes are developed and implemented.

Biological diversity of Peru: determining priority areas for conservation

Guidelines are presented for wildlife management practices in Peru. Suggestions include prioritizing the identification of information gaps in scientific knowledge, adjusting for a region's changing status of environmental degradation, and incorporating Peru's non-forested and drier ecosystems in conservation management.
