The interests of fish: a reply to Chipaniuk and List

Article Abstract:

Angling has been argued as a painless experience for fish. Instead of avoiding the bait the first time it gets hooked, the fish actually gets hooked several times before it is finally caught. However, not being able to learn from experience should not be equated with inability to feel pain. Also, there is no basis for the argument that since anglers are not cruel people, then angling is not a cruel activity. Children, inspite of their innocence, are capable of maiming small animals. It is only when they become aware of the cruelty they are inflicting that they stop the practice.

The argument made by Norton against Brian Steverson's comment on the 'Contextualism and Norton's Convergence Hypothesis,' charges on the hypothetical and imaginary cases that was viewed with absurdity. In response, Steverson addressed the misrepresentations of his position on species preservation, nonconvergence position and contextualist managers hierarchy-theory-based approach in analyzing ecosystems.
