The role of age-structure on the persistence and the dynamics of insect herbivore - parasitoid interactions

Article Abstract:

Research on parasitism in insects indicates that the developmental period length of the insect host is key in delineating regulatory processes of the host-parasite relationship in the ecosystem. Since vulnerability to parasitism is highest during the developmental period, short development periods evince weak density dependent parasitism for population stabilization, while long periods evince sharply non-linear parasitism for stabilization.

Population dynamics of a vertically transmitted, parasitic sex ratio distorter and its amphipod host

Article Abstract:

Field measurements were used to test and quantify the population dynamics of Nosema granulosis, a parasitic sex ratio distorter, and Gammarus duebeni, its amphipod host, over a two-year period. Findings suggest that while N. granulosis creates a slight reduction in G. duebeni female fecundity, it is not likely to produce extinction and recolonization cycles.

Compensation behaviour by insect herbivores and natural enemies: its influence on community structure

Article Abstract:

A model is presented to depict the interrelationships between insects, the plants they feed on, and their natural enemies, based on a tri-trophic system that incorporates compensatory ability of insect-enemy behavior and nutritional quality of food plants and resultant insect herbivory.
