Trade-off analysis in the Northern Andes to study the dynamics in agricultural land use

Article Abstract:

It is hypothesized that non-linearities and thresholds can induce land use change in production systems that affect farmers' decision-making. The Tradeoff Analysis (TOA) System is used to study agricultural land use dynamics and to find the underlying processes for non-linearities and it is observed that the sources of non-linearities are in the properties of bio-physical processes and in the decision making-process of farmers.

Evaluation of broiler litter transportation in northern Alabama, USA

Article Abstract:

A cost-minimizing phosphorous-consistent transportation model developed to meet the nutrient needs of 29 counties in northern Alabama shows that not all of the litter can be utilized in the region. The changes in the total litter used and in the cost are calculated for parametrically varying chemical fertilizer prices and the shadow prices indicate the robustness of the model.

Agricultural and recreational impacts of the conservation reserve program in rural North Dakota, USA

Article Abstract:

The Conservation Reserve program (CRP) created in 1985 provides conversation benefits and agricultural supply control through voluntary, long-term retirement of cropland. The net economic effects of decreased agricultural activity and increased recreational activity associated with the CRP in six rural areas of the North Dakota from 1996 to 2000 are addressed.
