Activated sludge treatment for odor control

Article Abstract:

Wet scrubbing is the most-used odor control process in municipal sludge composting. However, many wet scrubbing facilities have difficulties in maintaining effective odor control and need alternative technology. One alternative is activated sludge treatment. Odor removal efficiency tests at two sludge composting facilities show that this method is highly effective in controlling compost odors. However, variability of odor measurements between the facilities necessitates further tests which could lead to the design of more effective odor control processes.

Collecting, processing and financing yard trimmings programs

Article Abstract:

A survey has been carried out of yard trimmings programs in the northern US and Canada, with 93 municipal solid waste agencies responding from 124 that were surveyed. Most respondents see the programs as important and have four programs or more. Yard trimmings can account for 53% of residential waste and 40% of the total solid waste of municipalities. Some yard trimmings are banned, and size limitations may also be used. Tree stumps may be banned since they are heavy and difficult to process.
