Large scale wood processing and marketing

Article Abstract:

Materials recovery facilities are increasingly focusing more on wood processing, as it has a significant impact on markets. While in some cases, wood and yard trimmings are processed together, in others, dedicated lines are installed solely for handling wood. To improve markets, adjustments can be made to process wood and yard trimmings separately. The constant search for new outlets of wood helps in the maintenance of the recycling. Wood mulch with a simple processing method creates an easily marketable product. Marketing compost in bags and bulks is a good strategy.

Recycled house is builders' model

Article Abstract:

The Resource Conservation House, The National Association of Home Builders' (NAHB) project, consists almost entirely of recycled materials, and uses very little lumber. The recycled waste included steel beams made of old cans, automobiles and other scrap. The experimental project has generated considerable public interest in the light of the escalating costs of wood, indicating that recycled scrap is gaining wider acceptance as an alternative building material.

Marketing across the great divide

Article Abstract:

Cities from five regional Southwestern states have formed the Southwest Public Recycling Assn to build regional markets for secondary materials with the expansion of recycling programs. This development can also be traced to their reliance to a dwindling defense industry. The conversion of military related manufacturing to civilian purposes presents an opportunity forthese cities for widening their job base.
