California promotes reuse, recycling of scrap tires

Article Abstract:

The California Integrated Waste Management Board oversees a tire recycling program, launched in 1990, that diverts nearly 65% of scrap tires from disposal sites or stockpiles each year. Products and materials generated from the recycled tires include track surfacing, playground mats, rubberized asphalt concrete, levee reinforcement backfill and leachate gas collection system components.

Waste tires cut costs of building new highways

Article Abstract:

The Office of Solid Waste Reduction and Recycling in South Carolina has provided a $6 mil grant to Clemson University and the city of Clemson to research and develop uses for scrap rubber from tires. Potential applications include using crumb rubber in pavements for the state's road construction projects.

Managing scrap tires via stewardship programs

Article Abstract:

The governments of Manitoba and New Brunswick are providing financial incentives to companies to make products from scrap tyres. Other provinces with similar recycling programs include BC, AB and SK.
