The life and times of a wood recycling company

Article Abstract:

Western Organics Inc., Arizona, made $12 mil in sales from marketing sawdust and bark compost in the fiscal year ending Mar 1996. The company is involved in composting, grinding, screening, bagging, and distributing the compost. The plant at Phoenix is being upgraded to fulfill the 503 regulation. The plant processes almost 350,000 cubic yards of feedstocks annually and produces nearly 90,000 bags per week. The North Las Vegas plant is a warehouse and a wood composting site.

Wood recycling at municipal centers

Article Abstract:

Decatur and Anniston, AL, have developed successful programs for recycling woody materials. Decatur's program involves the collection of about 14,000 tons of stumps, pallets, grass clippings, and yard trimmings per year, according to Cindy Morehead, the city's recycling coordinator. Some compost produced by the program is given to the public free-of-charge. Anniston's program is also described.

Todco Incorporated, a wood waste diversion company in Davidson County, NC, founded by 25-year-old Todd Warfford, frees up valuable landfill space by converting yard trimmings and wood waste into hog fuel and gardening mulch.
