Compost quality and marketing developments

Article Abstract:

Nearly 35 percent of municipal solid waste (MSW) together with a large proportion of industrial or commercial waste would be composted or digested in the near future. The anticipated available material has led to renewed examination of the long-term sustainable markets for waste-derived composts, with European Union (EU) legislation driving the expansion of biowaste treatment.

Healing the earth with compost

Article Abstract:

Population pressure and low yields in Ethiopia are forcing farmers to abandon fallowing and crop rotations. To improve crop yields in the region, the Bureau of Agriculture and Natural Resources in Tigray (BoANR) adopted the Sasakawa Global (SG) 2000 package, which is based on high input demanding varieties and chemical fertilizers.

Developing the bioenergy industry

The Irish BioEnergy Association (IrBEA) was formed in May 1999, with an aim to promote the bioenergy industry and develop this important sector in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. The overall aim of IrBEA is to promote biomass as an economically, environmentally, and socially sustainable energy resource.
