Diving into compost tea

Article Abstract:

Industries have defined compost tea as a brewed or steeped solution of approximately 1:1000 parts compost:water that is used as a foliar spray or soil drench. Teas are generally weak fertilizer, having only the nutrients extracted from a small amount of compost and/or other additives, however are thought to gain efficacy through the action of living microorganisms and/or microbial metabolites that inhibit plant pathogens and/or stimulate plant growth.

Building a knowledge base for compost tea

Article Abstract:

The efficacy of aerated compost tea (ACT) for disease control, fields experiments on a Long Island, New York farm are being conducted by a nonprofit organization called Earth Pledge. The project is a collaborative effort that includes various projects funded by a grand from the organic framing research foundation (OFRF) in Santa Cruz, California.

Compost tea potential is still brewing

Article Abstract:

A project is initiated at The Rodale Institute in Kutztown, Pennsylvania to evaluate the use of compost tea in agricultural production systems. Crop trials at this institute indicate that further scientific research is needed to improve understanding of biological cropping system improvement strategies.
