Entering the next phase in Ontario

Article Abstract:

The composting is entering the next phase in Ontario as it moves from its leaf and yard focus to broader management of other organic materials like residential food residuals. A summary of major residential source separated organics (SSO) programs in Ontario for 2003 is presented and it is concluded that the government and the industry has to work together to achieve the diversion potential of SSO.

High quality composts from anaerobic digestion residues

Article Abstract:

Advanced aerobic treatment of residues from anaerobic digestion of leftovers and kitchen waste originating from an industrial waste treatment plant by means of cocomposting was studied. Cocomposting of residuals was found to be an appropriate alternative of closed loop management, which will help in reducing carbon emissions.

Preparing the way for commercial organics recovery

Article Abstract:

The compost program initiated and implemented by the California's Santa Cruz County in 2001 on the basis of survey conducted among various businesses is reviewed. The program is a part of the County's strategy to accomplish a goal of Zero Waste, reducing waste by 75 percent by 2010.
