Preparing engineering students for a future in anaerobic digestion

Article Abstract:

The civil and environmental engineering course offered by the Villanova University focuses on anaerobic digester designing for compost management. An unrestricted, real life project involving laboratory analyses and construction of a pilot digester are the main factors that has contributed towards the success of the course.

The thermophilic anaerobic digestion method designed by the North Carolina State University claims to have numerous crucial benefits over other treatment processes. However, the digester is yet to be operated at full-scale to evaluate the rate of pathogen elimination and production of biogas.
