Environmentalists, labor agree to principles for trade debate

The "Principles of Unity on Trade and Investment: A Call for Global Fairness" is a set of principles at the heart of the United State's trade policy. The principles, established by a coalition of environmental, religious and labor groups, focus on five key areas: democracy; workers and human rights; environment and public interest; agriculture; and debt and development.

Environmentalists, Labor look to trade to patch up shaky alliance

Article Abstract:

Information about the current relationship between environmentalists and labor unions is outlined. After backing the Bush administrations energy bill, labor unions are looking to a forthcoming campaign opposing new trade negotiating authority and other anti-globalization efforts to strengthen their shaky alliance.

Issues concerning the minimum energy efficiency standards for automobile fuel in the US are discussed. The tactics adopted by environmentalists to try to change standards for fuel efficiency are examined.
