Estimation using contingent valuation data from a "dichotomous choice with follow-up" questionnaire: a comment

Article Abstract:

Interval-data models are found to be highly capable of generating reliable estimates of mean willingness to pay from dichotomous choice with follow-up contingent valuation questions. Reliable estimates are achieved by interval-data models provided that the miscalculation incurred by Cameron and Quiggin's work is corrected. The miscalculation in Cameron and Quiggin's work is found to originate from a distortion initiated by restrictive interval data model estimation.

Effects of total cost and group-size information on willingness to pay responses: open ended vs. dichotomous choice

Article Abstract:

Total cost and group-size information create a neutral and a negative impact on dichotomous choice (DC) and open ended (OE) elicitation formats, respectively. Under the OE format, the willingness to pay responses of a reluctant respondent is greater. The reluctant respondent may also try to pursue an alternative heuristic, such as huge environmental protection contribution.
