Facility combines two technologies, increases water quality

Article Abstract:

Public Water Supply District No. 7 in Cass County, MO, delivers high- quality water by combining Koch Membrane Systems Inc's ultrafiltration membrane system and Kruger of Denmark's ballasted flocculating/clarification system. Leonard Whitting, Cass County superindentent, said that present and upcoming EPA standards led the plant to seek new water treatment technologies. In addition to increasing water quality, the plant's water quantity increased as well as a result of combining the two technologies.

Control of water quality deterioration in water distribution systems

Article Abstract:

The presence of methane in groundwater supplies in Illinois has led to recent studies dealing with the compound's effects on the state's water distribution systems. Previously valued for its use as a source of energy and its explosive characteristics, evidence for its possible adverse effects on drinking water supplies has been accumulated. Studies reveal that methane acts as a substrate that encourages bacterial growth on pipe surfaces.
