Farm managers are happy with compost results

Article Abstract:

New Era Farm Services was born in 1985 after founder Ralph Jurgens was commissioned by five row crop farmers into managing their company to help them increase soil organic matter. New Era advocates the use of compost, which is a biological approach to reducing the use of pesticides and synthetic fertilizers. Meanwhile, Grimmway Farms, one of New Era's regular customers, began converting its conventional acres to organic in 1991 and has since been steadily using compost. Grimmway claims that its use of compost has drastically controlled diseases on organic acreage.
