Flood wall protects jobs in rural community

Article Abstract:

Exxcel Contract Management Inc. has completed the development of a $5.8-million flood protection system in Pike County in southern Ohio, helping save nearly 2,500 jobs. The company was contracted by Mill's Pride Ltd. of Ohio, a furniture manufacture, to protect a 212-acre manufacturing facility, which was threatened by flood water. The flood wall project was started in spring 1995, with the help of Franklin Consultants Inc. of Columbus, OH, which engineered the wall. It is said that the finished Class I levee is the first design-build, closed-loop flood protection system developed in the country.

Erosion control system protects against the elements

Article Abstract:

Akzo Nobel Geosynthetics Co of Enka, NC, supplied its Enkamat three- dimensional geomatrix matting to help control erosion at a wastewater treatment facility in southern Louisiana. The material, which is composed of fused nylon fibers, was used as an anchoring system for grout cement to protect the shorelines of two large holding ponds at the facility. Akzo's Enkamat was able to provide a rock-solid strip of ground at the waterfronts of the two holding ponds.
