Free trade and global warming: a trade theory view of the Kyoto protocol

Article Abstract:

A study on international trade from the Kyoto protocol perspective is examined. Three important issues that need serious amendment only in open trading world are, influence of unilateral emission reductions by the rich North over the poor South, rules allocating emission reductions across countries may be well efficient even if international trade in emission permits is not allowed and non-occurrence of international emission permit trade may increase global emissions and make both the participants involved in trade worse off.
