Global strategy for biodegradable plastics

Article Abstract:

The world is on the verge of having a market for biodegradable plastics. The capacity to supplant genuine degradable materials for plastic in waste management and organics reclamation augurs well for source separated gathering. The Biodegradable polymers hold promise for the business community because it implies an association between the supporters of organics reclamation and some significant international corporate entities.

Designing a road map for odor control

Article Abstract:

A meeting of industry professionals is necessary to formulate guidelines for creating improved odor-control facilities and methods. There is a need for curbing prevalent misconceptions regarding composting from the minds of average citizens. Incidences of local residents acting to shut down many composting facilities due to panic created by the failure of odor controlling systems are described.

The chicken or the egg

Article Abstract:

The FTC's rules regarding compostability marketing claims, set in 1992, in effect preclude marketers from educating the public, through sound marketing claims, about the benefits of composting. Those rules are up for review in 1995, and a Nov 13-14 workshop/conference will give supporters of organics recovery a chance to call for changes to call for much needed changes.
