Winning strategy for biosolids compost marketing

Article Abstract:

North American Soils was able to acquire the right to market the compost produced by the Columbia Boulevard Wastewater Treatment Plant in Portland, OR. The company initially faced the problem of selling an inconsistent and ungainly mixture that had been produced using lagoon biosolids and compost. It installed a new aeration system that allowed them to produce a drier product free of the lagoon biosolids, which they marketed as soil enhancers and mulch for landscapers. The company also credits their improved delivery system for increasing their customers.

Wood fiber from pallets

Article Abstract:

The pallet industry uses 16 to 18 percent of the nation's lumber according to the calculation of the US Forest Service. The trade publication 'Pallet Enterprise' estimates that between 4000 to 5000 companies are engaged in this $6 billion industry and over 600 million pallets are produced in a year. Pallet recyclers have gathered, recycled and sold again the used pallets since the 1970s. A 1993 study by the Center For Forest Products Marketing at Virginia Polytechnic Institute mentions 83 million pallets were recycled.

Commercial applications for compost biofilters

Article Abstract:

Two Oregon-based firms, CSF Treatment Systems Inc and Bio-Reaction Industries Inc, have introduced compost-based biofiltration products that promise to make such technology available to smaller-scale commercial users. CSF's Compost Stormwater Filter is available in a drop-in configuration, suitable for relatively low stormwater flows, or in a cast-in-place configuration.
