Odor control for biosolids composting

Article Abstract:

Many residents near the 18.5 MGD activated sludge treatment plant American Bio Tech in-vessel biosolids composting facility at Schenectady, NY, have been complaining about obnoxiuos odors emanating from the plant. This prompted the Schenectady City Council to hire private company Professional Services Group Inc (PSG) of Houston, TX, to operate, manage and maintain the facility and identify and solve the odor problems. PSG immediately implemented a comprehensive odor management program that made process modifications and equipent changes such as in aeration, use of wood ash and longer stay in the reactors.
