Good, better, best, never let it rest

Article Abstract:

Professionalism is at the forefront of recycling and composting program management in the US. The methods employed for the programs are being revised to accomodate more material and be cost-effective. Recycling companies are experimenting with material sorting methods, loaders, and material collection vehicles. Vehicle prototypes and odor controling biofilters are being developed. The Compost Operators Forum, that will be held in May 1996, will discuss fire prevention in feedstock piles.

Gaining performance data: monitoring compost process and quality

Article Abstract:

Compost process and quality are monitored by using laboratories and through in-house testing to maintain moisture, proper carbon:nitrogen ratios and compost stability. The moisture content of windrows is determined by using a dry oven. Its temperature is determined by using an analog windrow thermometer. Also, aerating windrows must comply with the Process to Further Reduce Pathogen required by the Texas 332 Composting Regulations.
