Government financing and expertise boost recycling business

Article Abstract:

California established Recycling Market Development Zones (RMDZ) in 1989 to assist recycling businesses in utilizing more feedstock. It has since made 66 loans representing nearly $29 million, with a further $2.5 million in the processing stage. Companies have to match funds before receiving the loans, and there is also an application charge and loan origination fee. The program is administered by the California Integrated Waste Management Board and there are now 40 zones.

Feedstocks are shredded and then composted for 10 days. The finished compost is available to landscapers and homeowners.
