High altitude sludge composting

Article Abstract:

Breckenbridge Sanitation District in Colorado conducted experiments to discover the feasibility of composting wastewater sludge using low level technology as it is subjected to an unfavourable environment. Results from unsuccessful early experiments supplied preliminary conclusions. Phase onechanged the amount of moisture from preliminary findings and utilized two different sludges. Phase two involved subjecting the best result from phase one to winter conditions. Phase three analyzed the previously composted materials' capacity as a bulking agent. Results and conclusions were documented and recommendations were discussed.

Anaerobic digestion for household organics

Article Abstract:

The successful use of anaerobic technology for treating household organics has been reported in Europe. It has been in use for treatment waste streams with high oxygen demand such as municipal biosolids agricultural and food processing wastes. One of the communities in Europe which has accepted anaerobic digestion of household organics is the Brecht in northern Belgium. It is yet to be found whether anaerobic treatment of household organics is going to last.
