Honeywell carpet efforts awarded

Article Abstract:

Honeywell International wound up as the runner-up in the Dept of Energy's Technology of the Year Award for its Infinity nylon carpet recycling process. On the other hand, Evergreen Nylon Recycling, Honeywell's joint venture that converts scrap nylon 6 into virgin-quality material was named Recycler of the Year by the Society of Plastics Engineers. Evergreen Nylon Recyling developed the Infinity system that allows post-consumer nylon 6 to be converted into caprolactam, the raw material for making nylon 6.

DuPont, Ford partner on carpet recycling project

Article Abstract:

Ford Motor Co of Detroit, MI, and DuPont Automotive Co have joined forces in recycling used carpets and turning then into housings for engine air cleaners. The project, one of the first major contract for DuPont's carpet recycling facility in Chattanooga, TN, is under DuPont's 'Partnership for Carpet Recycling program. Under the terms of the deal, nylon is also taken from the used carpets, grounded into pellets and used to make such items as battery covers.

Dow a partner in polyurethane recycling effort

Article Abstract:

Mobius Technologies Inc has joined partnership with Dow Chemical Inc's Dow Polyurethanes division which would market the polyurethane foam recycling process developed by Mobius. Mobius' recycling process involves the crushing of scrap foam to minute powder and uses it as an additive to the foam manufacturing process. Both firms are coordinating with automobile firms and suppliers to use the recycling process to end-of-life vehicles.
