In-vessel composting of residential organics

Article Abstract:

The Regional Municipality of Peel has installed in-vessel Herhof Biocell Composters at its Caledon Sanitary Landfill Site near Brampton, Ontario, Canada. Around 7,500 of the around 10,000 households in the area served by the site have received a free wheeled cart, and the municipality is now collecting 3,360 metric tones of organic kitchen and yard waste from the community. A research project is investigating the agronomic and environmental impact of the compost produced on agricultural fields using variable rate technology.
